President Biden made a visit to his daughter-in-law’s home on Sunday night, just days before the ninth anniversary of the passing of his son Beau Biden, who was her husband.
This visit comes ahead of Hallie Biden’s anticipated testimony as a witness in Hunter Biden’s upcoming gun crime trial next month. Hunter Biden faces charges of making false statements on a federal form during the purchase of a firearm in 2018.
According to a source familiar with the October 23, 2018, police report, Hallie, who was in a relationship with Hunter at the time, allegedly disposed of a gun owned by Hunter Biden in a dumpster behind a market near a school.
Given the circumstances surrounding the disposal of the firearm and Hallie Biden’s relationship with Hunter at the time, she is indeed expected to be called upon to testify in the upcoming trial.
The reporter from NBC News received significant backlash for highlighting her connection to the trial on social media. However, allies of President Biden contended that there was nothing improper about his visit to her home.
The court in Hunter Biden’s case convened for its last hearing before jury selection commences on June 3. Previous reports from Fox News indicated that prosecutors intended to utilize excerpts from his book and laptop, including photographs, to persuade a jury that Hunter Biden is guilty of making false statements on a federal form during his purchase of a revolver in 2018, all while he was actively using narcotics. Hunter Biden has entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.
Judge Maryellen Noreika specified that Special Counsel David Weiss must demonstrate that Hunter Biden was addicted to drugs, though not necessarily under the influence of drugs on the day he bought the firearm.
In court filings, Hunter Biden’s defense team requested the court to prohibit the introduction of specific sensationalized aspects of his life to the jury, citing concerns about the potential for “substantial risk of unfair prejudice.”
In a legal motion known as a “motion in limine,” Hunter Biden has petitioned the court to preclude any mention of the child support proceedings in Arkansas and his discharge from the Navy. These requests pertain to his acknowledgment of fathering a child out-of-wedlock with Lunden Roberts, a former stripper, whose daughter is the grandchild of President Biden.
While acknowledging the potential relevance of certain evidence sought by prosecutors, such as purported drug transactions, ATM withdrawals, and the acquisition of the revolver, Hunter Biden’s legal team has argued that other details, such as references to expenditures on “adult entertainment, online chat rooms, or escort services,” are not pertinent to the charges at hand.
