A realtor based in San Antonio sparked major backlash in January after sharing a promotional video that appeared to echo a gesture made by Elon Musk during his Inauguration Day appearance—a move that previously drew intense criticism.

In the Instagram clip, Yessica Garza is seen saying, “So for my buyers, my heart goes out to you,” in what many interpreted as a reference to Musk, who was recently condemned for a gesture widely viewed as a Nazi salute.

The video quickly circulated on social media, with users accusing Garza of aligning herself with white supremacist ideals.

By Monday, RD Realty, the brokerage Garza worked for, announced on Instagram that she had been terminated.

“We want to make it completely clear: our company does not tolerate hate speech, discrimination, or any behavior that conflicts with our commitment to respect and inclusivity,” the firm stated.

The initial video posted to Instagram appears to have caught the attention of a liberal influencer who goes by the name ‘Drinkable Bryan”.  Using Garza’s original video, he generated a video of his own which was shown to his 400k+ followers and caught the attention of local media leading to Garza’s cancellation.  https://x.com/realtimsharp/status/1910721877439369408

I asked Garza why she chose to post a video emulating Elon’s controversial mannerism.  Her answer was quite simple.  Garza stated, “Well they taught us to look for controversial topics for our content and when Elon was being labeled unfairly. I have an 11 year old daughter who is high functioning autism and I knew it was sensory overload. His diagnosis that he has stated publicly is Asperger’s which is now on the autism spectrum.. I was also going to start using the same phrase my heart goes out to you as a hook for different real estate topics example my heart goes out to you if you need credit repair. My heart goes out to you if you are in the sellers market right now… I never intended it to be labeled as Nazi even though that’s what he was labeled. I recorded my video on the 28th of January. Posted it on the 29th January. I didn’t expect the wave that I received.”

Garza has since gained employment at another local real estate company after having been rejected by 2 other firms over the video.  Perhaps the most ironic part of all is that Garza is currently working toward her citizenship, as her parents legally immigrated to America while she was a child.  She has dreams of exchanging her permanent residency for citizenship in the future.  Garza is determined to not back down.
