This weekend’ nomination of Chase Oliver by the Libertarian Party has left me wondering what the future of their party is going forward. Historically Libertarians align much more with Republicans when it comes to their core beliefs. I have often joked that Libertarians are simply Republicans without the love of forever wars and the Federal Reserve.
Chase Oliver is a classical liberal in every sense of the word. He is pro-open borders, pro masking and pro child gender transitioning. Chase Oliver is simply not in alignment with any of my Libertarian friends in what he stands for. For that reason, I believe Chase Oliver is the Libertarian version of Mitt Romney. He is a chaos agent who does not represent the broader members of the Libertarian Party.
A few prominent members of the Libertarian Party have since publicly stated their support for Donald Trump in response to Oliver’s nomination. Trump, in his speech to the party, promised to place a Libertarian in a cabinet level position as well as in other senior leadership positions. In addition to those placements, he also promised to commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht on day 1 of his second term. Many principled Libertarians appear to be choosing principle over party regarding Oliver’s candidacy and Trump’s commitments.
I have a large group of friends that consider themselves Libertarian. I do not know any of them who support Oliver at this point. They are God fearing, America loving, red blooded American patriots who will stand on principle rather than support the party blindly.
Being a Libertarian has always been about free thought and individual rights. As much as I consider Chase Oliver the Libertarian version of the Republican Party’s Mitt Romney, I consider the Libertarians willing to break with their party and support Donald Trump the most Libertarian of all Libertarians.
