In a contentious session, House lawmakers pushed through a sweeping $61 billion aid package for Ukraine, stirring debate as not a single cent was earmarked for bolstering U.S. border defenses.

The vote on the Ukraine spending bill showcased a stark divide: GOP members tallied 101 votes in favor, 111 against, with 1 present and 4 abstentions. On the Democratic side, 210 representatives backed the measure, with 3 abstentions. Ultimately, the tally stood at 311 in favor and 111 against.

Following the vote, a peculiar scene unfolded as lawmakers were handed Ukrainian flags while Democratic voices reverberated through the chamber chanting, “Ukraine.”

Rep. Cory Mills (R-FL) sharply criticized the display, asserting, “No flag except the American flag should ever be flown or brought into the U.S. Congress chamber.” He lamented the apparent prioritization of foreign interests over domestic security concerns, remarking, “It’s a sad day in the US Congress when many of those who cheer for Ukraine funding vehemently opposed support for US border security.”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene (R-GA) didn’t hold back in her condemnation of Speaker Johnson’s leadership, accusing him of betraying both the Republican conference and the nation. Taking to social media, she wrote, “Johnson once again passed a bill with the help of Democrats while the majority of the Republican majority voted against it. Not only is Mike Johnson a traitor to our conference, he’s a traitor to our country.”
