West Point’s tradition is under fire as the iconic motto, “Duty, Honor, Country,” is purged from its official mission statement in what appears to be another capitulation to woke culture.

The move, announced by Lt. Gen. Steven W. Gilland, the academy’s superintendent, has sparked outrage among military veterans and patriots who see it as a betrayal of the institution’s core values. Originally coined by General Douglas MacArthur in his iconic 1962 speech, these words have long served as a guiding light for generations of cadets.

“A lot of warriors and heroes are weeping from their graves today,” lamented one critic on social media, encapsulating the sentiment of many who see this decision as a slap in the face to those who have sacrificed for our nation.

In a letter distributed to West Point’s alumni, known as the “Long Gray Line,” Gilland attempted to justify the change by citing the need for regular self-assessment. However, many see this as a hollow excuse to bow to political correctness at the expense of tradition and honor.

The previous mission statement, which emphasized the importance of “Duty, Honor, Country,” has been replaced with a vague and diluted version focused on producing leaders of character committed to the Army Values. While the Army Values include Duty and Honor, the omission of “Country” from the mission statement is a glaring departure from tradition.

West Point graduate Randy DeSoto, reflecting on his own experience, underscored the significance of “Duty, Honor, Country” in shaping the ethos of the institution. He emphasized that despite its removal from the mission statement, these values will continue to resonate with cadets.

However, critics argue that without the explicit inclusion of “Duty, Honor, Country” in the mission statement, the academy risks losing sight of its foundational principles and becoming just another cog in the woke machine.

As patriots across the nation voice their dismay at this decision, it serves as a stark reminder of the relentless assault on our nation’s heritage and values. In the face of such challenges, the Long Gray Line must stand united in defense of tradition, honor, and the timeless values that have defined West Point for generations.
