Former Vice President Mike Pence is making a push to rally the Republican Party around continued support for Ukraine, countering the party’s growing opposition to U.S. aid in the conflict with Russia.

Pence argues that supporting Ukraine aligns with one of the GOP’s primary concerns: China. According to a memo released by Pence’s conservative nonprofit, Advancing American Freedoms, “China is openly assisting Russia in its invasion of Ukraine.” Pence contends that “defeating Russia weakens China,” thus framing continued aid to Ukraine as a strategic move to counteract Chinese influence.

The memo further stated, “Russian control over Ukraine would provide China with more oil and natural gas, further fueling China’s expansionist ambitions.” Pence also contended that a Russian victory would not only bolster China but also strengthen both authoritarian regimes, making it crucial for the U.S. to continue supporting Ukraine.

In the Senate, many Republicans, including Senator Lindsey Graham and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, have strongly supported Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with some even visiting Ukraine personally. In contrast, numerous House Republicans have opposed further U.S. aid to Ukraine, citing concerns over spending.

This division within the GOP has not only delayed U.S. support for Ukraine, affecting its war efforts during the winter and spring, but it could also pose challenges for the party as Americans head to the polls this November.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Pence criticized the Biden-Harris administration, saying, “The Biden-Harris administration has failed America at home and abroad, so it is small wonder there are skeptics of continuing aid to Ukraine.” He emphasized, “But the simple fact is America will be less secure if Ukraine falls.”

Pence argued that “a more powerful Russia will only encourage China to be more aggressive.” He added that maintaining strong support for Ukraine is crucial, stating, “Standing firm in providing lethal aid to Ukraine will restrain authoritarian regimes from Tehran to Beijing and, most importantly, will protect and secure our great nation.”

Some Republicans have raised additional concerns beyond China regarding continued support for Ukraine. Issues such as U.S. border security and the substantial national debt have been frequently cited as reasons for opposing further aid to Kyiv.

The Advancing American Freedoms (AAF) memo addressed these concerns, stating, “Securing the border is primarily an issue of willpower, not a $$$ problem.” The memo also warned that Putin could use refugees as a strategic tool if he is not stopped in Ukraine, noting that he has done so in the past.

Additionally, the memo asserted, “While there’s no question that the federal government has a massive overspending problem, lethal aid to Ukraine has been worth every penny.”

The memo highlighted that the U.S. has allocated only 1.5% of its federal budget to support Ukraine and to “degrade the Russian military from the second best in the world to the second best in Ukraine.”

The memo also noted, “The cost of a Russian attack on a NATO ally, whom we are treaty-bound to defend, would quickly exceed 1.5% of the federal budget.” It concluded by emphasizing, “It is in America’s best interests for Ukraine to win the war.”

This appears to be further proof of a true uniparty existing. Liberals must genuinely ask themselves a simple question. Do they dislike Republicans or is it merely a dislike for Donald Trump.
