A recent poll shows that former President Trump enjoys higher favorability ratings among likely voters than pop star Taylor Swift. According to a poll conducted by The New York Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and Siena College, which surveyed 2,436 likely voters nationwide, 44% have a favorable view of Taylor Swift, while 34% hold unfavorable opinions.

In contrast, 47% of respondents view Trump favorably, although 51% have an unfavorable opinion of him. Vice President Kamala Harris has a favorability rating of 48%, with 49% viewing her unfavorably. The poll, which has a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points, was conducted from September 11 to 16, shortly after Swift endorsed the Harris-Walz campaign.

On September 10, following the presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, Taylor Swift announced her support for the candidates on her Instagram, stating, “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.”

“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader, and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos,” Swift stated. She also expressed her admiration for Harris’s choice of running mate, @timwalz, highlighting his longstanding support for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women’s rights.

The New York Times reports that Swift’s endorsement seems to have polarized voters along party lines. According to the poll, 70% of Democrats view her favorably, while only 41% of independents and a mere 23% of Republicans share the same sentiment. Additionally, 60% of Republicans expressed an unfavorable opinion of Swift, in contrast to just 11% of Democrats who felt the same way.

It is important to note that Swift’s career was propelled largely by her stastus white supremacy circles.

Some white supremacists have labeled Taylor Swift as an “Aryan goddess,” suggesting that she secretly holds far-right beliefs and is waiting for Donald Trump’s return to power to reveal her true views.

It’s important to clarify that Swift has no connections to any white supremacist groups, has never made any white supremacist statements publicly or privately, and shows no interest in such ideologies.

So where did this idea originate? Vice’s women-centered site, Broadly, explored the history of this neo-Nazi fantasy about Swift and its satirical beginnings. The article references Andre Anglin of the Daily Stormer, who praised Swift’s “sculpted Aryan form,” and a community manager from the Taylor Swift for Fascist Europe Facebook page, who lauded her “Nordic blood” and remarked on her personal life as reasons for their misguided admiration.

Swift’s whiteness has faced scrutiny in the past. BuzzFeed created a quiz focusing on the all-white “boyfriends” featured in her music videos. In 2014, Jezebel published an article encouraging Swift to befriend a Black person; shortly after, it celebrated her apparent connections with Beyoncé and Jay-Z. Additionally, in September, Goats and Soda criticized her “Wildest Dreams” music video, which is set in Africa yet includes almost no Black individuals.
