Katie Williams, the Clark County School Board of Trustees member under investigation over concerns about her Nevada residency, has resigned.

A source close to Williams confirmed the news to Channel 13 senior reporter Jaewon Jung on Wednesday afternoon.

The source revealed that although Williams maintains she has not committed any wrongdoing, she has decided to resign due to her upcoming marriage and the fact that her term is set to conclude in December.

The Clark County School District Board of School Trustees announced that they have received Trustee Williams’ resignation letter, effective September 11, 2024. The Board expressed gratitude for her service to students and their families and extended best wishes for her future endeavors.

Williams also shared her thoughts on her resignation via X.

A nearly identical situation seems to be playing out in Flagler County, Florida.

Sally Hunt has subtly hinted at her impending resignation for several months. Property records indicate she purchased a $615,000 home in Peachtree, Georgia, last November. According to state law, the governor is required to appoint a replacement if there are fewer than 28 months remaining in the term; otherwise, the appointment is made after the next general election. Hunt’s departure falls precisely at the 28-month mark of her term.

The issue resurfaced toward the end of today’s board workshop, during a discussion on “board member requests,” where members propose topics, issues, or procedures for future meetings.

Board member Cheryl Massaro had requested a more efficient system for tracking these requests to ensure they are documented and not duplicated. Hunt interjected, mentioning that the board is expected to welcome three new members. She reflected on how previous workshop discussions had often led nowhere and suggested that these new members could benefit from improved procedures.

There has been mounting questions in the area around where Hunt actually has domicile. I reached out directly to Sally Hunt and you can see her response below.

If you will notice, Hunt merely addresses the paper trail that states her residence. Residency and domicile are 2 completely separate issues. Hunt never states that she actually lives in Florida, only that she has residency there. Per requested information in the county, the utility usage at Hunt’s Florida residence has not decreased. Those utilities could be used by anyone however.

Local media has stated that she is often absent from board meetings adding to her criticisms.

Hunt campaign largely on a Democrat platform and unseated incumbent Republican Jill Woolbright in the 2022 election. It now appears that 2 years later Hunt has turned her attention elsewhere allowing the citizens and student of her district to be unrepresented.

The District Attorney’s office investigated this situation in Nevada. Will the same occur in Florida or will this continue to be ignored? I am told by local sources that Hunt limits her public appearances to board meetings and routinely attends those by phone.

It appears that other members of the school board Hunt currently sits on share the same concerns. I reached out to every member of the Flagler County School Board and did receive a response from one sitting member.

Until someone begins asking tough questions, the mystery of the missing school board member will continue.
