In a move that reeks of political persecution, Special Counsel Jack Smith has once again targeted President Trump with another indictment in DC, this time hot on the heels of the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity.

As previously reported, Jack Smith decided against conducting a ”˜mini trial’ before the critical November election. Instead, he’s been meticulously reworking the January 6 case against Trump, thanks to the Supreme Court’s decision affirming that Trump is shielded from prosecution for his ”˜official acts’ as President.

Desperate to keep their case alive, Smith’s prosecutors took their so-called evidence to a new grand jury. Their goal? To rejig the case after the Supreme Court’s ruling confirmed Trump’s immunity. But in typical fashion, the grand jury didn’t hesitate to slap Trump with the same four charges from last August: Conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights.

Smith’s team, clearly scrambling, admitted in their 36-page indictment that the new grand jury had never even heard the evidence before, a sign of how desperate the government is to sidestep the Supreme Court’s decision.

Trump’s legal team is pushing back hard, arguing that these federal charges are nothing more than a politically motivated attack on the President for actions he took while serving his country.

Back in August, Jack Smith’s prosecutors shamelessly claimed that Trump tried to use the DOJ to challenge the 2020 election results. Now, in this fresh indictment, they’re stretching the truth even further, arguing that Trump’s actions weren’t ”˜official acts’ simply because his rally was privately funded and organized. They’re even trying to twist the fact that Trump used his social media account for personal purposes as evidence against him.

The clock is ticking with a status report due to Judge Tanya Chutkan by August 30, and a status conference set for September 5.
