In a dramatic showdown, Secret Service agents thwarted an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, fatally shooting the gunman who targeted Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, sources confirmed to The Post.

The assailant, identified only as a white male, took up a sniper position several hundred yards from Trump’s podium. As Trump addressed the crowd, bullets rang out, and he instinctively grabbed his right ear before being tackled by Secret Service agents.

Despite the immediate danger, Trump quickly rose to his feet, instructed his security detail to “wait,” and then pumped his fist, shouting “fight” to rally the shaken crowd.

“He came within inches of having his face shot open,” a senior law enforcement source told The Post.

A witness recounted to BBC News that he had alerted the Secret Service to a gunman “bear-crawling up the roof” of a nearby building moments before the shots were fired.

“Next thing you know, five shots rang out,” the witness said.

Elon Musk reacted by posting the video on X, demanding accountability, “The head of the Secret Service and the leader of this security detail should resign.”
