Senate Democrats are dismissing speculation that President Joe Biden could be substituted as the nominee prior to the Democratic National Convention in August due to worries about his age and polling figures.
According to the most recent analysis of national polls by FiveThirtyEight, Biden holds a slim 0.4% advantage over former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical one-on-one contest.
However, Trump is reported to be leading Biden in seven crucial swing states (Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona, and Nevada), based on a survey conducted by Forbes.
Senator Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, dismissed reports of Biden potentially stepping down from the ticket this summer or fall as “bizarre,” according to The Hill.
Senator Richard Blumenthal, D-Connecticut, echoed Durbin’s sentiment, stating, “I’ve heard no credible plan B, and I’m not counting on a plan B.”
Senator John Hickenlooper, D-Colorado, acknowledged concerns among Democratic voters regarding polls showing Trump’s competitive edge over Biden for the upcoming election. “Everyone’s seen the polls and I think people are so alarmed that we could elect someone who’s kind of revealed themselves to be a demagogue,” he told The Hill.
Speculation in the media about Biden potentially dropping out has been fueled by polls indicating that a majority of voters believe he is too old to effectively serve as president, as noted by The Hill. A March survey by The New York Times/Siena College found that 73% of voters share this concern, including 61% of Biden’s own 2020 supporters.
British journalist Piers Morgan recently aired clips of President Biden appearing confused during a fundraising event in Los Angeles. The White House criticized the selectively edited video as “misinformation” aimed at unfairly portraying the president, while Trump shared it on his Truth Social platform, commenting, “Is this really who you want to be your President?”
Should Biden become incapacitated or opt to step aside before November, Kamala Harris would step in as the Democratic Party’s candidate. However, Blumenthal emphasized the importance of Thursday’s debate between Biden and Trump, describing it as pivotal for shaping the campaign’s trajectory.
“The Democrats are stuck with Biden whether they like it or not,” noted the Washington Examiner, highlighting the logistical challenges and potential for party divisions if any attempt were made to replace Biden at the convention in August.

I think it’s rather amusing how radically people underestimate the Biden family. Whether it’s old Joe himself, and his dementia is an act, or he’s really lost his marbles and it’s his son or his brother calling the shots, he was never going anywhere. The fact that Harris was named VP in the first place was a sure sign that whoever’s calling the shot, aims to keep Joe right where he is. Whether any other Democrats believed they could force the issue months ago or not, the idea of replacing him now is completely unfeasible and out the window. And was never particularly realistic to begin with. People need to wake up to the ruthlessness of the Biden family, and the quiet fear it inspires in DC.
