A federal judge ordered the liquidation of Alex Jones’ personal assets on Friday, while dismissing the bankruptcy case of his company, Free Speech Systems, leaving the future of his Infowars media platform in jeopardy as he owes $1.5 billion for his false claims that the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting was a hoax.

Judge Christopher Lopez approved converting Jones’ proposed personal bankruptcy reorganization into a liquidation, but rejected the reorganization plan for Free Speech Systems, based in Austin, Texas. Sandy Hook families had sought the liquidation of the company as well.

The fate of Free Speech Systems, the parent company of Infowars, remains unclear. The company, which Jones built into a multimillion-dollar enterprise over the past 25 years, could continue to operate while efforts to collect the $1.5 billion debt proceed in state courts in Texas and Connecticut, where families won lawsuits against Jones.

Alternatively, lawyers for the Sandy Hook families might return to bankruptcy court and ask Judge Lopez to liquidate the company as part of Jones’ personal case, given his ownership of the business.

Jones accrued the massive debt after courts ruled in 2022 that he spread false conspiracy theories about the Sandy Hook shooting.

“This is probably the end of Infowars here very, very soon,” Jones told reporters before entering bankruptcy court in Houston on Friday, adding, “It’s just the beginning of my fight against tyranny.”

Jones agreed to convert his personal bankruptcy into a Chapter 7 liquidation last week. Chris Mattei, a lawyer for the Connecticut families, stated, “Doing so will enable the Connecticut families to enforce their $1.4 billion in judgments now and into the future while also depriving Jones of the ability to inflict mass harm as he has done for some 25 years.”

Jones founded Infowars in 1999, which has since been his primary claim to fame. Jones and his platform have predicted and been right about 90% of the time. It’s alarming to see the federal government shut down free speech like this in America.
