A forthcoming highway project in Central Florida promises significant benefits to electric vehicle (EV) owners, offering the convenience of charging while on the move.

The Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) is spearheading the construction of State Road 516, a nearly five-mile stretch connecting Orange and Lake counties, which are both experiencing rapid growth.

Currently, there are limited routes linking these two populous counties.

Particularly innovative is the plan to incorporate an electrified charging component along a half-mile section of the highway.

Prototype vehicles will be fitted with specialized receptors designed to detect and utilize the electrified roadway, enabling them to recharge while driving.

In a recent development, CFX’s governing board unanimously greenlit the initial phase of construction, as reported by NBC6 affiliate, WESH.

The total projected cost for the project stands at approximately $534 million.
