Donald Trump delivered a speech to the Libertarian National Convention Saturday night highlighting many specific liberties that he vowed to defend.   Perhaps lost in the shuffle was his vow to protect crypto currency from overregulation.

In response to crypto Trump specifically said “I will also stop Joe Biden’s crusade to crush crypto. We’re going to stop it. I will ensure that the future of crypto and the future of bitcoin will be made in the USA, not driven overseas.” 

Joe Biden’s administration has sought to regulate crypto under the guise of protecting investors. This type of regulation would simply be a way for an already tyrannical government to step in and close an existing and vibrant system of the free market in which they currently have no control.

Trump’s relationship with cryptocurrency is not a new phenomenon.  Earlier in the week, Trump’s campaign became the first major campaign to begin accepting donations via cryptocurrency. 

Many Trump supporters are highly engaged in the cryptocurrency market.  In fact, one of  the largest online communities is called Politifi.  This is a community of over 100 themed meme coins built on the Solana network, these coins are engaged in a mock election that will finalize on November 5^th.  The President of Politifi will be crowned via market cap on that day.  The coins range from Tucker Carlson and Alex Jones to Hunter Biden’s Laptop.  One of the most popular coins available is Pepe Trump.  Pepe Trump is a hybrid of Trump himself and the popular 4 Chan meme of Pepe the frog. 

Trump himself has previously tweeted a meme of the character now used to represent the popular Pepe Trump coin. 

The value of the coins in the politifi universe comes through the content in which they create.  They are bought and sold on the open crypto market, and coins like Pepe Trump already have a market cap in the millions of dollars. 

This fusion of finance, culture and political content has never been seen anywhere in the world.  Andrew Breitbart once famously said that “politics is downstream from culture”.  MAGA has now outgrown its location from being downstream from culture and it now creating its own culture.  Donald Trump’s embrace of decentralized currency is another layer of proof that the Trump of 2024 is well connected to his base.  In addition, Trump has vowed to stop a creation of a Central Bank Digital Currency.  Crypto is currently decentralized meaning it is not held by a singular governing body, rather it is held by individual users.

The crypto market has responded very positively to Trump’s speech with Pepe Trump alone increasing in value nearly 50% in the past 24 hours.   This positive swing in Pepe Trump has occurred while large coins such as Bitcoin have experienced a small drop in value. 

Crypto is poised for a bright future in America under a Donald Trump presidency, as crypto is truly an expression of liberty.  Pepe Trump appears to be at the forefront of that future, as they regularly produce some of the best content on the internet.
