Today’s DC Patriot Cartoon of the Day comes to us from the uber talented Gary Varvel over at Creators.com

Varvel, one of the most talented political cartoonists in America, absolutely nails this one.

As you can see from the image below, Joe Biden is standing at a podium and he’s holding lipstick. The bigs look confused and depressed, and have things written on them like Electricity up 28%, Food Prices, 7% Mortgage, Gas prices up 48%, and more.

“I’m gonna need a lot more lipstick,” Biden says in the cartoon.

The phrase to put “lipstick on a pig” means making superficial or cosmetic changes to a product in a futile effort to disguise its fundamental failings. There are many phrases using pigs, monkeys, or swine, dating back to biblical times. This phrase seems to have been coined in the 20th century but did not become a common phrase until the 21st century and is often used in politics.
