A rally in Memphis took a disruptive turn over the weekend when a group of pro-Muslim and anti-Israel demonstrators managed to shut down both lanes of Interstate 40, causing a major traffic snarl that left thousands of motorists stranded on the interstate and bridge for hours.
The crowd, brandishing Palestinian flags and chanting slogans like “Allahu Akbar” and “From the river to the sea,” began their march from City Hall in downtown Memphis, eventually making their way to the bridge on-ramps. The disruptive actions drew sharp criticism from local residents and motorists who were caught up in the chaos.

One frustrated KWAM News Radio listener expressed their dismay, saying, “Absolutely disgraceful but typical weak Memphis. I was coming home from the Tigers game back to Arkansas, and we got caught in this. There is NO reason to let these people get away with doing this! I am so disgusted by Memphis and so sick of this continued rot!”
KWAM News Radio reporter Ben Deeter, who was in the area during the incident, observed the mob assembling at City Hall and followed them as they marched toward the bridge. Notably, law enforcement appeared to make no effort to prevent the protesters from accessing the bridge ramps.

Memphis Police received calls about the disturbance on the bridge around 3:10 p.m. central time, where protesters blocked both east and westbound traffic. The situation was further exacerbated as the only other bridge crossing the river was already closed for repairs.
KWAM News Radio host Earle Farrell, who found himself trapped on the Arkansas side of the bridge, reported that approximately 5,000 motorists were growing increasingly frustrated with the disruptive protest.

Fortunately, with the assistance of the Tennessee Highway Patrol and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were able to clear the bridge and restore traffic flow late into the evening. Surprisingly, no arrests were made in connection with the protest, leaving citizens outraged and demanding answers regarding the decision not to apprehend the individuals responsible for disrupting the lives of innocent motorists.
Listeners of KWAM expressed their frustration, with one remarking, “Amazing. Who is in charge of Memphis? I imagine they knew ahead of time, so they just removed themselves… a cowardly move. Unprofessional. Pure Memphis way.” Another listener criticized the newly inaugurated Mayor Paul Young and Police Chief CJ Davis for their absence during the incident, saying, “Mayor Paul Young clearly demonstrates his lack of leadership skills as well as his lack of courage. He’s off to a great start!”

In contrast, Arkansas Governor Sarah Sanders commended law enforcement for their efforts in restoring order and reopening the bridge to traffic. The incident has sparked debate and calls for accountability in the face of disruptive protests that impact innocent citizens.
